a moving painting
thought-provoking, tranquil, hypnotic
The impact of climate change is becoming ever more apparent. Our coasts are threatened by increased erosion and flooding. National Trust and Golden Tree Productions invited Titia Bouwmeester to make a work of art that highlights this hazard and creates greater awareness by inviting the public to relate to this issue in a new way.
For more than a month Titia Bouwmeester filmed the coastal landscape of Godrevy. How the tide drew patterns on the beach, the daily choreography of hikers, surfers and farmers and the moon’s arc across the sky. Monumental projections were screened in the closed setting of a barn: 24 hours became 24 minutes. The audience witnessed how the landscape changed from dawn till dusk. A specially composed soundtrack completed the cinematic experience, immersing the audience in a hypnotic flow of image and music.
