Cornwall has one of the richest communal singing cultures in Western Europe. The traditional songs reflect the ups and downs of the fishing trade and the community as a whole. We tried to add new repertoire to this vivid tradition. Local singers and musicians took part in a musical experiment that examined the contemporary socio-environmental conditions. Combining musical traditions with topical personal stories and traditional tunes with new vocal sounds.
The adhoc StormSong choir performed in the harbour and church of Porthleven on 18 April 2015. Whispering, crying and howling against the wind to express the town folk’s love and fear of the sea.
