BIO
I was trained as a visual artist at the Amsterdam School of Visual Education. I developed my craftsmanship and vision at Dogtroep, an Amsterdam theater collective that caused an international furore with large-scale location performances. With this company I make visual performances in squares, factory halls and shipyards from 1991 to 1999. From 1999 to 2003 I’m the artistic director of Dogtroep. We focus on ‘living sites’ where we are inspired by actual stories and social changes. We work and play for example in the prison of Bruges or the Square of the Revolution in Moscow.
In 2004 I set up my own company 5eKwartier; with this company I make site-specific performances about communities in transition, about people who are finding their way in a changing world. Warm-blooded theater in which text, images and music are surprisingly intertwined with the landscape. In addition to professional performers, the performances often also include singers and musicians from the community. As a choir they interpret the voices and emotions from the community.

In 2020 I graduated as a vegetarian chef. I add a new element to my performances, namely taste.
